Reflection can be a valuable exercise to engage working learners and support them in making the connection between their student employment role and their career interests post-completion.  This presentation, shared by Virginia Commonwealth University, provides an example of how you might engage working learners in more deeply understanding the value of reflection and how that connects to them learning from their experiences.  The deck provides a variety of activities and content, based in the practice of reflection, that can serve as a starting point or example for other institutions wanting to engage their working learners in this opportunity for professional and personal growth.

Many units find value in adding Work+ to their student job postings, here are various sample descriptions specific to ASU that you can include with your postings! Please feel free to find the description that works best for your department and alter it as you see fit.

The Work+ Pathway supplements the working learner experience by providing content around a number of important career development topics. The modules are broken into three levels with each level building and expanding on the previous. The pathway supports working learners to better understand and identify the skills and competencies they are building in their student employment and how best to articulate those skills, as well as the ability to manage their career development related to their particular career interests. To make the most of the pathway, we recommend that working learners complete the modules and levels in order.
