Tips for using this resource

  • The Work+ Accomplishment Tracker is a tool that is incorporated as part of the learning pathway that working learners are completing alongside their student employment role. The learning pathway and the incorporated tools are intended to support working learners to identify, level-up and articulate their experiences related to the NACE career competencies.
  • ASU chose to create this tool in Google Sheets to ensure ease of access for our users. This allows our team to easily update the content and structure whenever needed. Additionally, Google Sheets provided the functionality to force students to make a copy and save as their own personal accomplishment tracker.
  • The first tab, titled Level 1, is where we guide all working learners to start. This portion of the tracker is intended to have them accomplish two things:
    • Facilitate an opportunity for them to reflect and identify the different experiences they have had that have supported their growth in each of the NACE career competencies. We ask them to describe those specific examples next to the competency.
    • Determine which competencies they may want to focus on for growth and identify level-up activities that will support this goal.
  • It is important to remind students that they are not expected to have examples or experiences in each of the career competencies. Being honest and up front about where they stand, will help them to craft a plan for growth.
  • The second tab, titled level 2, expands on the experiences the working learner has had and helps them to begin crafting their professional story and articulating their skills based on those experiences.
  • You will notice, our team provided examples directly in the tracker, highlighted in gold. These are helpful references to get working learners started.
  • We strongly encourage our supervisors to set aside time to review and provide feedback to working learners about their Work+ Accomplishment Tracker. In many cases, it is also helpful for working learners to connect and share this tool with their peers.
  • Finally, we encourage working learners to save this tracker and continue to utilize it as they continue to grow in their student employment role, but to also track other experiences they are having outside of employment. That way the Tracker can become a helpful reference when a student is writing or updating their resume or preparing for interviews.
